2019 Spotlight Report on Healthcare

Vectra research in Spotlight Report on Healthcare reveals that the proliferation of medical IoT devices – along with unpartitioned networks, insufficient access controls and legacy systems – has created a massive and vulnerable attack surface that can be exploited by cybercriminals.

A MASSIVE AND VULNERABLE ATTACK SURFACE EXISTS IN HEALTHCARE NETWORKS

Lapses in the proper implementation of a security plan, or gaps in policies and procedures, can result in errors by staff members, creating a soft spot for attackers to exploit.

These and other key findings underscore the importance of faster detection and response inside healthcare networks before attackers have a chance to spy, spread and steal.

The Spotlight Report on Healthcare also reveals:

  • Many unsecured legacy systems still exist
  • Downtime for patching is a challenge in environments that run 24/7
  • Healthcare networks have a 3:1 ratio of devices to people
  • Any device with an IP address can connect to the network

The Spotlight Report on Healthcare from Vectra is based on observations and data in the 2019 RSA Conference Edition of the Attacker Behavior Industry Report from Vectra.
